LIFE & TIMES


Born on Chandrila, Mon represents the Bornea Sector in the Galactic Senate. She was raised by her mother, governor of the planet, and her father, an arbiter-general for the Republic. Elected at age 21, she became the youngest Senator ever to serve and used political savvy gained while growing up to her advantage.

Unfortunately, political savvy could not be of use in every situation. A few months after becoming Senator, Mon found herself pregnant by her then-boyfriend, Christoph. Distressed at the implications a pregnancy would have on her political career and on her home planet's image, Mon discussed the situation at length with her family. Though she hoped Christoph would support her, he could not accept the pregnancy as she had and soon disappeared, leaving her to deal with the situation on her own.

A few months later, Mon gave birth to a healthy baby girl, whom she named Lily. She could not consciously have aborted the pregnancy because although she believed in a woman's right to choose, she knew it wasn't the right choice for her. Mon decided instead to offer the child for adoption. She wanted others to give Lily the home and family she felt she couldn't. Lily was quickly welcomed into the home of Daniel and Anita Paddleson, who had been trying to conceive for many years without success. Mon kissed Lily goodbye and handed the Paddlesons a locket with her holograph inside and a long letter she had written to her newborn daughter. She instructed them to give these items to Lily when they felt the child was old enough.

Very few people were informed that Mon had been pregnant, or that she had given up her child. She knew it was best for her political career and for her emotional health to keep those things to herself. She has never gotten over having to give Lily up, and misses her very much. She often wonders what Lily is doing, and whether she is asking about her "real" mom yet. The "lily" in the second part of Mon's username is for her daughter.

This experience has made Mon very cautious and guarded about her personal life, and relationships. She feels attracted to a friend of hers, but is afraid to act on these feelings. Instead she throws herself into her political life, working late and seldom taking a day off for any reason. She believes she'll deal with her conflicting feelings in the future, but for now, she prefers to bury them where no one can find them.


PERSONALITY

Mon is kind and caring and an advocate for human rights and the rights of smaller systems. She doesn't have much of a personal life, although she admits that she would like to, someday. Politics is extremely important to her and, at times, consumes her life, although she's becoming better about that than she used to be. Still, with the ongoing Clone Wars and her continued efforts to preserve democracy, she is in her office more than her apartment. In fact, at times she has difficulty remembering what her apartment looks like.

Mon considers herself "mom" to a stray cat named Melena. She found Melena wandering the Senate Office Building one day at lunchtime and decided she couldn't resist her. Melena provides a bit of stability in Mon's life, a friendly face to whom she can return at night when she's feeling stressed. Melena is expecting a litter of kittens in a few weeks and Mon is delighted that she's going to be a "grandmother."

Mon maintains several friendships in the Senate, including one with IC!Padmé Amidala, flowerytease. She also hangs around occasionally with IC!Qui-Gon (thelivingforce) and Bail Organa. Although she won't admit it to herself, she is attracted to OOC!Anakin (angsty_knight).
